Duke of Edinburgh Bronze and Silver Award Presentation

On Tuesday 8th May the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze and Silver award presentation was held at Ortu Hassenbrook Academy. Fourteen of our Year 10 students passed their Bronze award and nine of our Year 11 students passed their Silver award.

The evening was fantastic, a huge success. The hall was filled with students, parents, friends and family, as well as a lot of staff, both past and present and Governors helping us to celebrate this massive achievement.

On entry, Erin Lynas, one of our Bronze award students, played the guitar for everyone as they arrived. Our students had displayed some of the work that they did to help them pass their award, from welding skills, to baking. They also got up in front of the audience and spoke about the expeditions they went on, how tough they were, what they learned and how they feel now they have completed them.

Towards the end of the evening, Ms Heald along with Ms Williams, our Headteacher, Ms Rachel Blake, Thurrock Duke of Edinburgh Development Officer and Mrs Jacky Phillips, the Duke of Edinburgh Team Leader in Thurrock awarded our students with their certificates and their badges, something for them to all wear on their blazers with pride.

A massive thank you to all the staff that helped out on the presentation evening as well as those staff members who accompanied the students on their expeditions.
