Term 1 Knowledge Maps (KMs)
At Hassenbrook we are introducing an exciting new approach to independent learning. Staff have been working very hard over the last term to produce detailed Knowledge Maps (KMs) for term one for every year group who study their subject. The knowledge maps contain all the key information that a pupil needs to learn for a topic for that term. Staff will regularly set home learning using KMs and test pupils on their learning in lessons throughout the term. This means that lesson time will be more productive as pupils are already familiar with the key concept and this will free up teaching time to embed and extend learning.
Knowledge maps are now available for use on our website. The front pages of the Knowledge maps explain how to use them and parents can see what they should be learning each term. Pupils will also be taught how to use them through assemblies and tutor time. We are confident that this new approach to independent study, with pupils actively learning at home and parents encouraged to help them through testing them on what they have learnt, will make a big difference to their progress.
